Female Teacher With Digital Tablet Teaches Group Of Uniformed Elementary Pupils In School Classroom

The Alternative Master’s Elementary Education Degree Program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to become certified to teach at the elementary level (grades K-6). Completion of the program leads to Class A certification in the state of Alabama and a master’s degree in Elementary Education. Students must meet all admission requirements and be eligible for unconditional admission. Conditional admission is not available for this program.

Program Overview

Please note: Due to the substantial field components completed each semester, courses are traditionally offered in a face-to-face format during mornings and afternoons. This format enables candidates to gain four semesters of practical, professional experience and network in local, public elementary schools. Specifically, this program is designed to meet the needs of full-time graduate students.

Online Pilot Program

For students currently working full-time in elementary schools as either a teacher or paraeducator, UM has a pilot program that can be done utilizing distance education. Please see the sample schedules below for more information.
