Alternative Master's Programs are for those with a bachelor's degree in a field other than education. They lead to an Alternative Class A Certification.
M.Ed. in Collaborative K-6

The Alternative Master’s Collaborative Teacher Program is for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of special education and seek to obtain a master’s degree.  This certification will allow graduates to teach special education at the elementary (K-6) level.  Students must be admitted unconditionally in this program.

M.Ed. in Collaborative 6-12

The Alternative Master’s Collaborative Secondary Teacher Program is for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, English/Language Arts, general science, history, mathematics, or social science and seek to obtain a master’s degree.  This certification will allow graduates to teach special education at the high school level.  Students must be admitted unconditionally in this program.

M.Ed. in Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The Alternative Master’s Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is for those who have a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of education and seek to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing at the P-12 level (preschool-grade 12) and earn a master’s degree and Class A teaching certification.  Students must be admitted unconditionally in this program.

M.Ed. in Elementary Education

The Alternative Master’s Elementary Education Degree Program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to become certified to teach at the elementary level (grades K-6).  Completion of the program leads to Class A certification in the state of Alabama and a master’s degree in Elementary Education.  Students must be admitted unconditionally in this program. Please notice: Due to the substantial field components completed each semester, courses are offered in a face-to-face format during mornings and afternoons.  This enables candidates to gain four semesters of practical, professional experience and network in local, public elementary schools.  Specifically, this program is designed to meet the needs of full-time graduate students.

The Alternative Master’s Secondary education Program is for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, business, chemistry, English/language arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, general science, history, mathematics, social science, or Spanish and desire a master’s degree and advanced teacher certification (Class A).  This certification will allow graduates to teach at the middle and high school level (grades 6-12)

This coursework leads to National Board Certification.

M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership (Traditional A Certification)

The Instructional Leadership program is based on the concept of the teacher/administrator as a developing professional.  The State Board of Education has approved the program.  Coursework is offered to provide students with a well-rounded background in all aspects of educational administration.  Priorities are established to provide students with information in all aspects of school operation including knowledge of national and Alabama school law, finance and regulations; knowledge of personnel management and staff development; knowledge of curriculum and instructional supervision; and the ability to integrate research and current trends into practice. This is a fully online program.

M.S. in Exercise Science
