The University of Montevallo’s Master’s Degree in Counseling can position you for a successful career in three degree areas: Clinical Mental Health counseling, School counseling, or Couples and Family counseling.  All degree tracks are certified by the prestigious Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Track

This track is designed to prepare counselors to work in such settings as mental health centers, substance abuse treatment programs, hospitals, agencies, and higher education settings.  Successful completion of core courses in this track meets academic requirements for the LPC credential in Alabama.

Couple and Family Counseling Track

This track provides students with a solid foundation in family systems theory, systems counseling techniques, and current societal trends, thereby preparing them for work with individuals, couples, and families.  Successful completion of core courses in this track meets academic requirements for the LPC credential in Alabama and LMFT academic requirements.

School Counseling Track

This track is designed to prepare school counselors at the elementary and secondary levels.  This program track has been approved by the State Board of Education for the Alabama Class A certificate in Counseling and Guidance.  Successful completion of core courses in this track meets academic requirements for the LPC credential in Alabama.
