Dr. Claire M. Edwards
Joining the University of Montevallo faculty in 2006, Dr. Claire Edwards is a Professor, Clinical Supervisor, and Graduate Program Coordinator for the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. She completed her B.S. in Early Childhood Education, M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and her Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Edwards holds the Certificate for Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is a licensed speech-language pathologist in Alabama. Previously, Dr. Edwards served as a board member of the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from 2015-2018.
Dr. Edwards has extensive clinical experience in child-language and speech sound disorders and teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in those subjects, as well as interprofessional education and professional issues. Certified in the It Takes Two to Talk Hanen program, Dr. Edwards is interested in helping families of young children learn early language facilitation techniques to help promote effective communication. Her current research focus is on interprofessional education and practice pedagogy.
Dr. Edwards serves as chair of the Graduate Council and is a member of the Academic Integrity Council. She was the Faculty Senate President for 2022-2023 and currently serves as the Senator for CSD.
