Stephen Parker (sociology, emeritus)

Dr. Stephen Parker is professor emeritus of Sociology in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the University of Montevallo’s College of Arts and Sciences.  He received his B.A. and M.A. from Baylor University and his Ph.D. from Indiana University.  Prior to coming to the University of Montevallo in 1992, he served as an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Southern Mississippi.

At Montevallo, Parker taught Social Stratification, Gender and Culture, Sociological Theory, Sociology of Education, and Sociology of Popular Music.

His book, School Talk: Gender and Adolescent Culture (co-authored with Donna Eder and Kathy Evans), received the North Central Sociological Association’s “Scholarly Achievement Award.”  He has published articles in the American Journal of Sociology, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, and Sociology of Education.
