March 18, 2020: Update on Advising and Course Registration

Dear students,

As we all continue to navigate the unchartered waters of the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Montevallo wants you to know we are still here to help you with advising and registration for the summer and fall 2020 semesters.

In light of recent developments, we are moving to an online advising format for students advising and registration for the summer and fall 2020 terms. The course schedule is now available online. All students must meet virtually with their advisors in order to register for classes.

To find out who your academic advisor is or to access your degree evaluation, simply follow these instructions and email your advisor to request a virtual advising session with them:

How to find your advisor:

1. Login to Banner Self Service

2. Click on the “Student” tab

3. Select “Student Records”

4. Select “View Student Information”

5. Select “Term” and then select “OK.” Your advisor is listed here.

6. You can use the UM Directory to find their contact information: Montevallo.edu/staff-directory

To access your degree self-evaluation to determine which classes you still need to take to complete the requirements for your degree, follow these steps:

How to access your Degree Evaluation:

1. Login to Banner Self-Service

2. Click on the “Student Tab”

3. Select “Student Records”

4. Select “Degree Evaluation”

  • Here, you will see your major information listed. You have three options on the bottom of this screen: “Previous Evaluations,” “Generate New Evaluation,” “What-if Analysis,” and “View Holds.”
  • “Previous Evaluations” lets you see any evaluations you may have completed previously and will show the date they were done.
  • “Generate New Evaluation” allows you to run a degree evaluation at that time. It will show you where you currently stand academically, as well as classes you have completed, are registered for, or still need to complete.
  • “What-If-Analysis” gives you the opportunity to see how your completed classes would transfer over to another major. This does not change your major, but it does allow you to see what requirements you would still need if you were to change your major.
  • “View Holds” shows you any holds you have on your student account. These holds will have to be addressed before you are allowed to register for classes.

More details can be found here: CAPP Degree Evaluation (Student Handbook)
