University of Montevallo Coronavirus Precautions FAQ

May/Summer Distance Education Update

Given the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, and all of the compelling national and state data on the matter, the University has determined that we will transition May and summer courses to distance education. Based on student needs, we have already been focusing on increasing distance education options in May and summer. Deans and chairs will be working carefully with faculty to make this transition as successful as possible. The Malone Center will continue to be a helpful resource as will the faculty colleagues who have excellent experience in distance education.

As the University will not be selling summer meal plans, Falcon Foods will be closing at the end of the semester and will not reopen during the month of June. Falcon Foods will decide about reopening for the remainder of the summer in late June.

Falcon Foods will still offer catering service with a 48-hour advance notice to secure staffing and product, and will still be open for orientation lunches this summer. To place a catering order, please contact UM Director of Dining Services Jason Quarles by phone at 205-688-0329 or by email at Jason.Quarles@compass-usa.com.

The University has also determined that we will extend the spring 2020 P/F alternative grading system. More information about the policy is available here.

The University is looking forward to resuming in-person instruction on a regular schedule for the fall 2020 semester, with the understanding that the global climate surrounding COVID-19 remains a fluid situation. Accordingly, University leaders are continually monitoring COVID-19 developments with the guidance of federal and state officials. The safety of UM students, faculty and staff is paramount, and any future decisions involving instructional changes will be communicated electronically to campus should the need arise.

UM is also excited to welcome new and returning students safely to campus residence halls in the fall. In an effort to help families as they face the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the University has extended the deposit deadline for the fall semester until June 1.
