More than a short-term project or the effort of a single office, achieving inclusive excellence at the University of Montevallo depends on how the campus community values and engages with the diversity of its students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners. The primary goal of this approach to inclusive excellence is to make diversity, inclusion and equity core values of the entire university through collaboration with different entities on campus with a focus on creating an environment where everyone is able to thrive and grow while recognizing their value in an ever changing global community.
The University of Montevallo is committed to creating an open environment that is welcoming to all individuals. The following goals represent UM’s commitment to this diversity, inclusion and equity:
Goal One – Institutional Viability and Vitality: Create an environment that values models excellence for increasing diversity.

We are committed to working inside and outside of the classroom to support this vision. We will create educational programs and experiences that recognize, value and engage with diverse viewpoints that make up our community and the world around us.
Our aim is not only to make us a stronger community of learners, educators and professionals, but also to enable our students to become highly effective leaders and professionals in their careers and their communities.
