Emphasis on the development of basic communication skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, through grammatical and verbal drills, systematic vocabulary acquisition, reading, composition, and conversation.

102 Introductory German II, 3 credit hours (GE)
Continued emphasis on the development of basic communication skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, through grammatical and verbal drills, systematic vocabulary acquisition, reading, composition, and conversation. Prerequisite: GER 101 or equivalent.

201 Intermediate German I, 3 credit hours (GE)
Continued emphasis on the development of basic communication skills, stressing vocabulary, the idiom, and grammar, along with composition and conversation. Readings and discussions explore cross-cultural values. Prerequisite: GER 102 or equivalent (see department chair).

202 Intermediate German II, 3 credit hours (GE)
Continuation of GER 201. Prerequisite: GER 201 or equivalent (see department chair).

310 German Conversation and Composition, 3 credit hours
Developing fluency in speaking and writing German. Prerequisite: Completion of lower-division sequences, or equivalent. Offered alternate years as warranted.

320 Introduction to German Culture, 3 credit hours
Modern Germany and its historical, philosophical, literary, and artistic foundations. Offered alternate years as warranted.

330 Special Topics, 3 credit hours
Investigation of selected topics drawn from culture, history, literature, and the arts. Offered as warranted.

331 Survey of German Literature I, 3 credit hours
German literature from the earliest epics. Required of minors. Offered alternate years as warranted.

332 Survey of German Literature II, 3 credit hours
Continuation of GER 331, including contemporary literature. Required of minors. Offered as warranted.

342 Introduction to Classical and 19th-century German Literature I, 3 credit hours
Readings from the Age of Classicism, with special emphasis on the lives and works of Goethe and Schiller. Offered as warranted.

343 Introduction to Classical and 19th-century German Literature II, 3 credit hours
Continuation of GER 342. A study of German drama from Schiller to 1870. Offered as warranted.

351 Contemporary German Literature I, 3 credit hours
Extensive readings, discussion, and comprehension reports on the leading literary minds and movements of the century. Offered as warranted.

352 Contemporary German Literature II, 3 credit hours
Continuation of GER 351.
