University of Montevallo Theatre Season OPENS…

The UM Theatre Division will present its first fall mainstage production with the play Seagull by Anthon Chekhov.

The Seagull is set in Russia on the provincial estate of the Treplev family, where they gather for one evening that will forever change their lives. It is a famous play about love and art. Every body knows a cliché that was unfortunately attached to Chekhov’s work: he wrote tragic plays about unhappy and wimpy people. Curious enough Chekhov always insisted that he wrote comedy.

The production of this famous Russian play in a new translation by Carol Rocamore is directed by Russian director Vladimir Rovinsky.

The Seagull is the last production being directed by Vladimir Rovinsky in University of Montevallo. After the end of this semester he is leaving UM.
