Birmingham and NYC based Voice Teacher and Vocal Coach (Disney, etc.) Amy Murphy conducted a 3 hour Musical Theatre Auditions Workshop for UM Theatre in Fall 2009. This semester, Amy will spend 4 sessions working individually with our Musical Theatre majors on their audition repertory and performance skills. Ms. Murphy’s bio is listed below:
Trained in Opera performance and Music Education at Juilliard and New England Conservatory of Music, Amy Murphy has sung and taught professionally for 16 years. Her New York performances include Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Uris Theater and the Wintergarden Theater, Lincoln Center at Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Cami Hall and the Dicapo Opera Theater. Amy has toured with opera companies in Europe as well as the states, but her favorite company is the Blue Hill Troupe where she met her husband, Morgan Murphy, a Birmingham native.
Amy maintains a large private voice studio in New York as well as in Birmingham. In Birmingham she conducts the Junior League of Birmingham Choral Group, an accomplished Women’s Chorus whose performances spread joy and goodwill throughout the greater Birmingham area. Under Amy’s direction the group has expanded their repertoire and reach, performing recently in Carnegie Hall under the direction of John Rutter. Their 2008-2009 season includes performances with Red Mountain Theatre Company, Carnegie Hall, again with John Rutter, as well as the International Haydn Festival 2009 in Vienna.

Self-proclaimed ' vocal mechanic' , Amy works with today's Broadway singers to strengthen their healthy belt, while maintaining the range and fluidity of the voice. Her technique is easy to apply quickly and extremely targeted to your specific repertoire challenges.
