UM Theatre Department Mission Statement

Our mission is to train students to enter the profession while also providing a first-rate liberal arts education.

Last year, UM was ranked among the top 20 public master's-level institutions in the South by US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT.  Graduates of the Theatre Department are well-prepared to enter the entertainment industry in theatre, film or TV and are currently working in urban markets such as NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Miami, San Francisco, Orlando and Austin.

While many of our alumni are working professionally in the industry, your degree from UM also qualifies you to enter a variety of fields that require critical thinking, leadership and communication skills. Our graduates have also been successful in pursuing graduate MFA programs in Theatre and, for those interested, in teaching Theatre at the high school level in Alabama.
