Summer 2008 Updates: Here’s what some of our current theatre majors did over their summer break from UM!

  • Zach Clemons, BFA Musical Theatre, performed in several shows with Theatre West Virginia, including a leading role in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.  Zach  also worked on staff as assistant fight choreographer under incoming full-time UM Theatre professor Marcus Lane.

  • Brittney Hunt, BFA Acting/Directing, worked in the costume shop at Theatre West Virginia.

  • Karow Wilson, BFA Design/Technology, worked as a scene painter and on the technical crew at Shenandoah Musical Theatre in Virginia.

  • Marie Pope, BFA Acting/Directing, performed a leading role at the Snowcamp outdoor theatre in NC.

  • Steven Williams, pursuing a BFA Musical Theatre, performed in RAGTIME and SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN with the Peachtree Summer Theatre in GA.

  • Savannah Swafford, BFA Musical Theatre, worked with UM faculty members Kel Laeger and David Callaghan in preparation for choreographing HAIR at UM in November 2008.

  • Haley Evans , BFA, Musical Theatre, transferred to UM from the Boston Conservatory of Music. After performing in various plays and musicals here, she has spent the summer rehearsing her BFA Senior Project, Jason Robert Brown’s musical THE LAST 5 YEARS.

  • Holly Dale, BFA Acting/Directing, has been directing THE LAST 5 YEARS ay UM  and BJ Underwood, BFA Acting/Directing major, has also been in rehearsal for its September 4th opening in Reynolds Theatre!

  • Tabby Stott, pursuing a Musical Theatre BFA, returned to her hometown in TN where she performed in ANYTHING GOES.

  • Tyree Walker, BA Theatre, performed a leading role in Lee Blessing’s COBB with the Montevallo Players in AL.

  • Jeremiah Snyder, BA Theatre, did the lighting design for COBB

  • Leslie Hinson, BFA Acting/Directing and BA, French, returned to  France for studies in Avignon after spending the spring 2007 semester abroad.

  • Incoming UM Musical Theatre and Vocal Performance major Sierra Riggs performed with theatre alums Leah Luker and Chris Sams in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at Oak Mountain Theatre in Birmingham.

And….Charlie Conway, Music Major with minors in Philosophy and Theatre, is about to leave   Montevallo  to pursue graduate school in NYC after acting in UM productions, playing guitar and other instruments in THE SERPENT and GODSPELL and stage managing and helping design sound for MOLLY SWEENEY. Charlie has previously created 2 original performance pieces at UM and has spent  the summer of 2008 creating and rehearsing a new original work, THE PRIVATE BODY, that he will perform in Reynolds Theatre September 11-13 (details will be posted on the Theatre homepage shortly!)
