The mission of the College of Education at
the University of Montevallo is to promote the
continuing professional development of students
who have made a commitment to the service in the
areas of teaching, counseling, or health and
recreation. The College accepts as its primary
responsibility the preparation of professionals
for the schools, and believes that these
professionals are characterized both by their
responsibility for making decisions in the
classroom and by their increasing ability to
make reasoned and informed decisions. Courses
are designed to assist students in acquiring the
skills, knowledge and experiences to make these
decisions about teaching and learning. Through
interaction with professional literature,
classroom activities and laboratory experiences,
students are expected to become increasingly
skilled in four major areas:
CF 1. knowledge of self,
CF 2. knowledge of diverse learners and
communities,
CF 3.
knowledge of instruction, technology, and
other
CF 4. knowledge
of curriculum and subject matter or
specialty area
The use of research related to effective teaching and learning is an integral part of all professional education programs.
