Internship

Students should be prepared to spend full time in their school assignment during the internship. The internship assignment will be made by the Office of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships. During the internship semester, the intern is allowed to take one adviser approved course (3 - 4 additional hours). For secondary students the extra course will be ED 490.  Students will not be allowed to take any coursework that interferes with the internship.

Students who are preparing for certification in both early childhood and elementary must intern in Grade K,1, 2, or 3.  P-12 students will be assigned either a middle school or a “split” placement (elementary and high school). The internship currently consists of sixteen weeks (640 hours).

Students who are preparing for certification for one level and who wish to obtain a Class B Certificate in an additional field must complete the requirements of the other program and a minimum sixteen-weeks, 640-hour internship in the additional teaching field.

Students should understand that while they are enrolled at the University of Montevallo as candidates for a teacher's certificate, they will be required to participate in classroom activities at locations other than the University campus. They should also understand that they are to provide their own transportation to and from these activities. The University of Montevallo is in no way responsible or liable for any possible injuries to students or any passengers riding in any vehicle they drive; neither is the University responsible or liable for any possible injury or injuries to the student while traveling as a passenger to and from the site of these activities.
