The University of Montevallo will be offering a variety of camps this summer, both academic and athletic. Academic camps are offered for ages 10 and up, while athletic camps offer options for ages 5 and up. All camps are housed on the historic UM campus.
Alabama High School Theatre Camp
The UM College of Fine Arts’ Department of Theatre is proud to host the Alabama High School Theatre Camp June 11-16. This state-wide residential camp will provide a process-focused approach, engaging several areas of theatre to train young high school actors of all levels. Students will have the opportunity to learn musical theatre, auditioning skills, acting for television and film and vocal training. They will also explore design/technology areas such as make-up, lighting, welding or 3-D printing.
Young Musicians’ Camp
The UM Young Musicians’ Camp, to be held June 18-23, provides middle and high school-aged band, choir, guitar and piano students, along with students interested in music technology with superior musical instruction. The camp combines this instruction with the fun and friendship of a great summer camp. A variety of ensemble and master class experiences are conducted by internationally recognized UM music faculty and guest artists. Evening activities include swimming, cookouts, movies, mixers, field sports and recitals.
The Computer Coding Camp at UM is designed to engage campers in activities that will introduce them to coding and help them understand how coding concepts can relate to critical thinking skills. The camp, for students entering 6th through 8th grades, will be held July 17-20.
Throughout this one-week event, campers will participate in stimulating, hands-on, educational activities on the UM campus. Activities will be led by University faculty with assistance from UM student counselors and activity coordinators. This camp is well suited for students with very little to no experience coding.
UM, in partnership with the Montevallo Arts Council, is excited to bring back Mural Camp for students who are entering 5th through 12th grades and are interested in creating art in a community setting. The camp will be held in two sessions on June 5-9 and June 19-23.
Campers will provide input into a mural design promoting preservation and protection of Montevallo’s natural resources. Throughout the duration of the camp, campers will have the opportunity to visit many of Montevallo’s natural resources.
