Tammy Lee Killian

Tammy Killian is a native of Alabama and received her BA in Theatre/Art from Birmingham-Southern College and her MFA in Acting from Florida Atlantic University.

Tammy has been on the theatre faculty for four years at the University of Montevallo where she teaches acting, directing, voice and play analysis. At UM Tammy directed THE BACCHAE, DEAD CITY, FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS and ON THE VERGE. At UM in the summer of 2009 Tammy produced four student written shows as the inaugural season of the White Cardigan Club (WCC), and in January 2010 and 2011 produced WCC’s Winter Play Festivals. WCC encourages students to write, direct, act in and design new work. Tammy received a grant from UM to conduct research last summer on New Play Development. She is excited to continue working on that project and to continue to build the White Cardigan Club.

Last summer, Tammy was the Assistant Director/Stage Manager for City Equity Theatre’s production of RACE; and in 2010 she played Nancy in CET’s production of THE SECRETS OF A SOCCER MOM. Also, in the summer of 2010 Tammy had the fantastic opportunity be a member of a company comprised of Alat Etc and the Auburn University at Montgomery theatre department, which developed a new play entitled THE DAUGHTERS OF ABRAHAM.

Tammy was the Artistic Director of Theatre Louisiana College for 8 years. At TLC, Tammy directed a number of shows her favorites include: SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN, MACBETH, WAIT UNTIL DARK, THE SECRET GARDEN and AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS.

Tammy is also the founding Artistic Director of Spectral Sisters Productions. At SSP she has produced WHEELCHAIR PORNOGRAPHY, FULLY COMMITTED, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, HIGHER EDUCATION, A NAME FOR A GHOST TO MUTTER and many others, as well as five summer seasons of “new work” by community playwrights. In the summer of 2009 Tammy had the honor of being the guest artist at SSP and playing the role of Grace in ALLEGRO written by New York playwright and playwright in residence at SSP, Rachel Labdukte

Other favorite directing credits include SLEUTH at the Peterborough Players, NH with Gus Kaikkonen and Michael Page; WIND IN THE WILLOWS also at Peterborough Players, NH; HEY COW at the Looking Glass Theatre in NYC; and HAVING OUR SAY which was City Park Players’ entry in the AACT Festival in 2003 and for which Tammy won the SWTFA regional directing award.

Tammy is the past Chair of the College/University Division of The Alabama Conference of Theatres as well as Vice Chair for the New Play Festival Committee for SETC.

Tammy is a member of Alabama Conference of Theatres, International Centre for Women Playwrights, Dramatist Guild, the Southeastern Theatre Conference and Actors’ Equity Association.
