Sally Hardig

Sally Bennett Hardig, associate professor, earned her doctorate in communication studies with an emphasis in rhetoric from the University of Memphis in 2006. She holds a Master of Arts from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky.

Her scholarly interests include gender studies, environmental rhetoric and health communication.

Hardig has been a faculty member at the University of Montevallo since fall 2002. She has served as Department Chair since 2011, when the Communication Arts Department split into two separate departments: communication and theatre. She is an active scholar, with 18 regional and national paper presentations — including two top paper awards and co-authored papers published in “Journal of Health Psychology” and “Health Communication and New Information Technologies (eHealth)”. She co-authored with her COMS colleagues six editions of custom workbooks designed for COMS 101 classes.

Hardig is also active in university and community service, serving on various university committees, the editorial board for the “Journal of Contemporary Rhetoric” and holding two terms as a faculty senator and one as president of the Montevallo Elementary School PTO.
