Elizabeth Eller Thrower is a professor of education in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at the University of Montevallo.
She received her B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee in Psychology, her M.A. from the University of Alabama in school psychology and her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in educational psychology/research. Before coming to the University of Montevallo, she first served as a school psychologist in Wilson, N.C., and then as faculty/school psychologist at Valdosta State University. She joined the faculty at the University of Montevallo in 1996, where she received the Earnest Award for Outstanding Commitment to Teaching in 2005.
Thrower is a nationally certified school psychologist and has published numerous chapters in the field including textbooks in educational psychology and multicultural education. She has also published in the Alabama Counseling Association Journal, and she currently collaborates with area elementary and middle schools in bullying prevention.
Thrower’s expertise in assessment was called upon by the University of Montevallo to assist with its Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation.She co-chaired the SACS Committee for Compliance audit and the SACS Readiness audit team. In December of 2011, the SACS Commission on Colleges reaffirmed the accreditation of the institution with zero recommendations and no sanctions. Thrower is also on the SACS evaluator registry.
