Douglas L. Smith, Ph.D., is an associate professor of business in the Stephens College of Business at the University of Montevallo.
After a 30-year career with a Fortune 100 company, during which he held an executive level management position, he obtained his Ph.D. in administration-health services with specializations in strategic management and marketing. His education includes a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting, master’s degree in business administration, master’s degree in education and a doctorate. His career was in the areas of information systems and accounting.
He holds the designations of certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA), certified internal auditor (CIA), certified information systems auditor (CISA), certified financial manager (CFM), certified fraud examiner (CFE), and certified financial planner (CFP). He recently retired from Samford University, where he was employed for 16 years. At the University of Montevallo, he teaches accounting courses.
He and his wife, Sally, have three adult children. They are active in Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham.
