 Please Read Before You Begin

Thank you for your interest in the ASPIRE/Student Support Services (ASPIRE) Program at the University of Montevallo. Before proceeding with this online application form, please read the information below carefully:
 

GENERAL INFORMATION:
  1. Individuals applying to the ASPIRE Program must be currently enrolled students, or be officially accepted for admission to, the University; a U. S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; and must meet at least one of the criteria below:
    • An individual from a low– or limited-income family;
    • Potentially the first in their family to complete a bachelor’s degree (“first generation” college student); or
    • An individual with a disability (documentation must be on file with Disability Support Services).
  2. Two-thirds of all participants must be individuals who are both low-income and first generation or have a disability.
  3. All applicants must have need for academic support and/or assistance.
  4. As a federally funded program, the ASPIRE/SSS Program is required to collect sensitive information such as your Social Security Number and your family income to document your eligibility to receive services. 

The ASPIRE/SSS Program is 100% funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  As such, it is required to collect sensitive information such as your Social Security Number and your family income to document your eligibility to receive services.  You may bring this with you to your interview.  Income information may be provided in the following ways

  • a signed United States or Puerto Rico income tax return
  • verification from another governmental source
  • a signed statement from your parent or legal guardian, or from you, if independent

Confidentiality of Information

Information you provide to the ASPIRE Program is protected by the Privacy Act (FERPA).  No one may see the information unless they work for UM, ASPIRE, or if you specifically authorize them to see the information.  Some information you give to the ASPIRE Program such as your Social Security Number is sent to the U.S. Department of Education in order to confirm that you are eligible to participate in the program and helps the government to measure the program's success.
