Spooks in the Stacks! event

Carmichael Library will host its 2nd annual Spooks in the Stacks! event, which is part of the City of Montevallo’s Hometown Halloween. Birmingham Paranormal will be on hand to play recordings of the paranormal sounds and activity they’ve documented in the university’s historic buildings. Walking tours of the campus will take visitors directly to the sites of some of the school’s most-famous ghost stories. Finally, the library will conduct a costume contest with prizes provided by the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce. Organizations sponsoring the Halloween event include the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce and the University of Montevallo Office of Student Life.

The Office of International Services, in association with the Stephens College of Business, will present the latest segment in the international lecture series, featuring The Hon. Claudio Leoncavallo, the Swiss Consul General in Atlanta. His talk is titled “Switzerland and Swiss Knowledge Network.”

UM Theatre, in a co-production with Magic City Actors Theatre, will present Parade, a musical based on the true story of the trial and lynching of Leo Frank. The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, in association with the Campus Ministry Association, will present “Is There a God? Debate 2.” Participants include Terry Barrett, professor emeritus of psychology, Murray State University; Wilson Fallin Jr., UM professor of history; Earl Fowler Gossett Jr., Canterbury professor emeritus of religion and philosophy, Birmingham-Southern College; and Michael Patton, UM professor of philosophy. Sherry Ford, UM assistant professor of communication studies, will serve as moderator. Free refreshments will be served after the event.
