The Adelante book group of the Montevallo branch of AAUW will meet Wednesday, Oct. 14, at noon, in the Sarah Palmer Commons (Comer 202). The topic will be “Interracial Connections in Segregated America.” The book selections include The House at the End of the Road, by Ralph Eubanks, and The Help, by Kathryn Stockett. Presenters will be Rosemary Arneson and Mary Jo Buff, respectively.

A U.S.-Brazil symposium will take place Thursday, Oct. 15-Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Ramsay Conference Center and Lodge, room 106. All are encouraged to join faculty and students from the University of Montevallo and Gadsden State Community College and our two Brazilian Partner Institutions, Universidade Federal de Viçosa and Universidade Federal de Goiás, as well as other U.S. and Brazilian participants at the U.S.-Brazil Arts and Culture Initiative Symposium. Interested individuals are welcome to attend a single session or an entire day. A complete schedule was recently sent to the campus community via e-mail. A study-away fair will take place Thursday, Oct. 22, from 1-5 p.m., at the International House (845 Valley Street, behind BankTrust). A variety of opportunities exist for semester exchanges and for summer 2010. Commercial representatives from Arcadia University and International Studies Abroad will be on campus.
