Members of the Montevallo branch of AAUW invite all interested individuals to attend a reception for prospective and returning members, to be held Thursday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m., in the Mary Lee Garrett Brown Alumni Center in Reynolds Hall. The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force, Pelham Police Department and Shelby County Drug-Free Coalition will host a take-back day to collect any unused or expired over-the-counter or prescription medications for proper disposal. Individuals with drugs to discard may bring them for free disposal. No information is required at drop-off. The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at a variety of locations throughout Shelby County, including the University of Montevallo Department of Public Safety (station 6155). The annual Midnight Madness event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the BankTrust Arena of the McChesney Student Activity Center. Students will have the opportunity to meet the athletes who comprise the 2012-2013 men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as this year’s cheerleading squad. Games and activities are planned for those in attendance, and students will have an opportunity to win a variety of prizes, including $400 worth of his or her books paid for for the spring semester.
