The UM Office of International Services, in association with the Department of Behavioral Sciences, will present an international lecture series featuring The Hon. Takuji Hanatani, the Japanese consul general in Atlanta, who will speak on “Japan’s Place in the World.” A reception will follow.

Alabama Symphony Orchestra Concert

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will present “The Great American Symphony,” its final performance of the 2008-2009 Montevallo series. Ives’ “Symphony No. 2” will be presented. American folk artist Bobby Horton, of Three on a String, will team with ASO conductor Christopher Confessore to uncover the spirit behind Ives’ genius. The classic American folk tunes Columbia; Gem of the Ocean; Camptown Races; Long, Long Ago; America the Beautiful and others that form the basis of Ives masterful Symphony No. 2 will be brought to life in this creative combination.

UPC EVENT
Late Night Happy Hour

Late Night Happy Hour will take place. A refreshed version of this annual event (formerly known as the Late Night or Midnight Breakfast), this year’s event will feature finger foods, hot and cold coffee/tea drinks and smoothies, music and much, much more. This is UPC’s biggest and most-anticipated event of the year. Volunteers are needed to allow this Montevallo tradition to be as successful as ever. Volunteers are asked to be inside the dining hall by 9:30 p.m. the night of the event. Those wishing to volunteer or needing more information should contact Melvin Milton, UPC coordinator, by 5 p.m., Thursday, April 30.
