Antoine Davis, of the 22nd-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team, was recently named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District Second Team. Davis, who battled an injury most of the season, came on late in the season and helped lead the Falcons to a PBC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Southeast Region Championship. He was named Most Valuable Player at the PBC Tournament and was a member of the NCAA Southeast Regional All-Tournament team.

D. J. Rivera, of the 22nd-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team, was named an All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Rivera was one of 16 players selected and one of just two from the Peach Belt Conference. Rivera was named an All-American by the NABC, Daktronics and Basketball Times. He was a First Team All-PBC selection, First Team Daktronics All-Region selection and a NABC First Team All-District selection. He was named to the PBC All-Tournament Team and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. He broke the UM NCAA record for free throws made in a game with 14 and free throw percentage in a game going 14-of-14 from the charity stripe earlier this season. He also recently broke the UM single season scoring record with 698 points, which bested the record set by Greg Brown during the 2006-2007 season of 694 points. Rivera currently sits at 712.

Steffany Sorensen, social science and English major, recently attended the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference held at Troy University-Dothan, where she presented a paper titled “Hildegard of Bingen: Sexuality, Virginity, and the Feminine Divine.” Sorensen’s paper earned the conference’s Exceptional Merit Award.
