An informal session on student retention will be hosted by President Williams Wednesday, March 4, from noon-1 p.m., in the Montevallo Room, Anna Irvin Hall. The discussion is open to faculty, staff and students. No need to RSVP; just bring your cafeteria lunch to the Montevallo Room.

Wednesday, March 4, will be the last day for departments to make changes to the draft of the May, summer and fall class schedule.

Dean’s council will meet Wednesday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m., in the Merrill Room, Reynolds Hall.

Academic council will meet Wednesday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m., in the Merrill Room, Reynolds Hall.

Higher Education Day will take place Thursday, March 5, in Montgomery, on the front steps of the Alabama Statehouse. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to rally for higher education funding at this event, which annually draws students and other interested individuals from public universities across the state. University-chartered busses will depart campus at 8:30 a.m. The rally is at 11 a.m. SGA/STARS will provide breakfast on the bus and the Higher Education Partnership provides lunch in Montgomery. For more information, contact the Student Life Office at Ext. 6565.

The May, summer and fall class schedule will be available on the web beginning Friday, March 6.

Adviser copies of the May, summer and fall class schedule will be distributed to departments Friday, March 6.

Faculty senate will meet Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m., in the Merrill Room, Reynolds Hall.

Graduate council will meet Thursday, March 12, at 1 p.m., in Bloch Hall 201.

The undergraduate curriculum and standards committee will meet Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m., in Comer Hall 303.

Spring break will begin Friday, March 13, at 5 p.m. The dining hall will close after the noon meal that day, and residence halls, except Peck, will close at 5 p.m. The break will continue through Friday, March 20. Residence halls will re-open at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 22. The dining hall will open for the evening meal that day. Classes will resume Monday, March 23, at 8 a.m.

The Montevallo Chamber of Commerce monthly newsletter, Chamber Chatter, includes announcements about events in town and at the University. The Chamber meeting on Wednesday, March 25, at 7:30 a.m., will feature a presentation by UM Public Relations staff member Tiffany Bunt about how to promote your business through facebook.
