Anagama Kiln Firing

UM’s anagama kiln, affectionately known as “Fat Bastard,” will commence its spring firing schedule with lighting at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25. The shut-down will take place Sunday, March 1, with unloading scheduled for Sunday, March 8, at 10 a.m.

Dr. Emily Tobey, professor and Nell C. Johnston chair at the University of Texas in Dallas, Callier Advanced Hearing Research Center, will speak on “Frankenstein: How Physics, Literature and Theatre led to a Scientific Success.” Tobey’s lecture is brought to UM by the UM Department of Communication Science and Disorders in association with the Concert and Lecture Series.
International Lecture Series

The UM Office of International Services, in association with the Stephens College of Business, will present The Hon. Lutz Hermann Görgens, the German consul general in Atlanta, who will give a talk, “From Lehman Brothers to First Solar: The Resilience of Transatlantic Partnership,” as part of the International Lecture Series. A reception will follow.
Alabama Symphony Orchestra concert

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will perform the third of four concerts in their 2008-2009 concert series at UM. This performance, titled “Rhapsodies in Blue,” will include Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” variations; selections from “The River,” by Ellington; Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Rivets;” and the Gershwin classic, “Rhapsody in Blue.” Anne-Marie McDermott, piano, and Justin Brown, conductor. Honor Band Festival

The Sixteenth Annual UM Honor Band Festival will take place. The UM Wind Ensemble will kick off the weekend with a Friday evening concert, March 6, at 7:30, in Palmer Auditorium. The festival will conclude Sunday, March 8, with the UM Honor Band concert, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium.
Japanese Film Showing
