The Montevallo branch of AAUW will host a program on “Innovative Educational Opportunities and Programs Available at the University of Montevallo” Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m., in Hill House. Panelists will include Lee Rozelle, Kristen Gilbert, Hollie Cost, Cathlena Martin, Sally Bell and Randi Tubbs Northcutt. Kathy King will moderate. Come and learn more about such exciting new programs as Game Studies and Design, Service Learning and the Green Initiative, as well as a variety of interdisciplinary minors in areas such as Public Relations, Information Literacy, Public Policy and Social Services. The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs is accepting applications for 2012-2013 Montevallo Masters. An informal information session will take place Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, which is located on the lower level of Main Hall. Those interested in applying should visit the Student Affairs website and click the button for Montevallo Masters in Announcements to access the application, or pick up an application in the VPSA’s office. For the first time, applications can be submitted to the VPSA’s office (station 6020) or submitted online. The deadline for applications is no later than 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. Montevallo Masters serve as the official hosts and hostesses of the University of Montevallo. They represent the University at functions such as Founders’ Day, commencements (May, August and December) and Homecoming events. Students with at least a 2.5 grade point average, an enthusiastic attitude and a desire to serve their University are encouraged to apply. For more information, please call Est. 6020.

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs continues to seek nominations for the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Friday, Feb. 3. The award is intended to recognize individuals who exhibit exceptional humanitarian and spiritual qualities. Students who graduated in December 2011, or who will graduate in May or August 2012, are eligible for consideration. Nominations can be turned in to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), located on the lower level of Main Hall (station 6020) or e-mailed to Karen Willingham at willinghamkl@montevallo.edu. Applications can be obtained in the office of the VPSA or by visiting the Division of Student Affairs website. Need more information? The Zooperstars, a group of high-energy, costumed character performers, are coming to the University of Montevallo Saturday, Feb. 4, to the basketball doubleheader. UM will be taking on Clayton State University. Women tip-off at 1:30 p.m. and men at 3:30 p.m. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid UM ID. Admission for adults is $5. The Zooperstars have appeared on America’s Got Talent.
