The University of Montevallo Saxophone Ensemble
The UM Saxophone Ensemble is an ensemble comprised majors and
non-majors that want to learn the saxophone repertoire in an ensemble
experience. The Saxophone Ensemble performs as a large group and as separate
quartets. One quartet is for saxophone majors and the other quartet is for
other woodwind majors wishing to have doubling experience. The ensemble performs one
formal concert each semester and travels to many of the area public schools for
various performances. Additionally, the UM Sax Ensemble performs for
special events such as the Christmas Feast, Woodwind Workshop and the College of
Fine Arts Scholarship Gala. This ensemble is required by all saxophone
majors and is open to non-majors and other woodwind majors with permission of the
instructor. The class meets once weekly on Tuesday’s from 12:00-12:50 for the
doubling quartet, and 1:00-1:50 for the majors quartet. The full ensemble
rehearses when asked by the instructor on Tuesday during the 1:00 hour.
