MONTEVALLO MUSIC CONNECTION

 

Current enrollment period is complete.

We will begin accepting applications to participate in this program in January 2014.

The Community School of Music is pleased to announce our partnership with the D’Addario Music Foundation, Guitar Center Inc.  and the Alabama Council on the Arts for help funding the Montevallo Music Connection. This is a music program for young students to learn to play instruments who might not be able to afford music lessons.

Qualifications:

·         Child must be between the ages of 8-16 years of age.

·         Child must be nominated by a school principal or teacher, band or choir director, etc. in a letter of recommendation sent to: UMCSM@montevallo.edu 

·         Financial need must be showcased (i.e. child enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program at their school as an example).

·         Child must have transportation to and from University of Montevallo campus.

Goals of the Montevallo Music Connection classes:

·         To make music instruction available to interested students.

·         To receive quality music education from professional musicians.

·         To emphasize teamwork in a non-athletic setting.

·         To increase organizational and critical thinking skills.

·         To boost self confidence and self esteem through the development of performance skills.

·         To understand the importance of music as a communicative art form.

If you have a guitar or violin that you’d like to donate, please email us at: UMCSM@montevallo.edu or call 205-665-6678. We accept guitars and violins of all sizes and can even make minor repairs if needed!
