A
native of Cleveland, OH, Katie Holaway relocated to
Tuscaloosa in 2003. She has since received her B.M., summa cum
laude, and M.M. in performance from the University of Alabama.
An active performer, Katie plays regularly with the Tuscaloosa
Symphony Orchestra and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. She
is a former member of the Starkville Symphony, and has also
played with the Mobile and Tupelo symphonies. As an orchestral
musician, she has had the opportunity to work with Kenneth
Schermerhorn, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Louis Lane, David Effron,
Joseph Silverstein, Stephen Smith, and Keith Lockhart. Katie
has performed in master classes for Andres Diaz, Merry Peckham,
Regina Mushabac, the Emerson String Quartet, the Cavani String
Quartet, and Curtis Macomber. Attending on full-scholarship,
she has spent two summers at the Brevard Music Center in
Brevard, North Carolina. Her past instructors include Carlton
McCreery, Daniel Sweaney, Maggie Snyder, and David Alan Harrell.
In Tuscaloosa, Katie
maintains a private cello study, directs an intermediate-level
string ensemble, coaches chamber music ensembles, and teaches
beginning violin and cello classes at local elementary schools.
In addition to her work with young musicians, Katie also teaches
adult beginning strings classes. This fall, Katie joins the
University of Montevallo’s Community School of Music as cello
and group violin instructor. She is a member of the National
Association of Music Educators and the American String Teachers
Association. |
