Jonathan Maloney

 

Jonathan Maloney, the school's all-time leading scorer and two-time defending Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, returned to UM for his fourth and final season of competition in 2008. A native of West Yorkshire, England, Maloney was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-America First Team, becoming the first Montevallo men’s soccer player to be named a first team All-American by the NSCAA. This is his second-straight All-American honor after last season’s third team selection. Maloney led the Falcons with 18 goals, eight assists, and 44 points. He leaves the University as one of the most decorated athletes in school history. He holds numerous school and conference records and was named Gulf South Conference Athlete of the Week more times than any male athlete in conference history. He was a two-time South Region Player of the Year and three-time GSC Player of the Year. He ended his career with 70 goals, 27 assists and 167 points. He ranks first in the conference and at Montevallo in career goals and points. 2007 . . . Named Third Team NSCAA/adidas All-American . . . named Second Team Daktronics All-American . . . led GSC and tied for 7th in the nation in goals per game . . . ninth in the nation in points (2.23) per game . . . tied school single-season record for goals (22) . . . recorded 10 game-winning goals . . . also named to NSCAA/adidas and Daktronics All-South Region teams . . . one of nine Falcons named to GSC Honor Roll. 2006 . . . Continued his hot scoring, leading the conference and finishing sixth in the nation in goals scored per game . . . established school single-season scoring record (22) and goals per match (1.16) in a season . . . had seven game-winning goals . . . named to the NSCAA/adidas All-South Region and First Team All-Gulf South Conference teams . . . also named to GSC All-Tournament Team and GSC Honor Roll. 2005 . . . Made an immediate impact, leading the team in scoring in 13 matches . . . scored eight goals with four assists, and collected two game-winning goals . . . scored only goal of match in victory over Alabama-Huntsville. Personal . . . Prepped at St. John Fisher High School where he played for coach Mike Knowles . . . team were Area Soccer Champions and County Soccer Champions . . . also competed for seven seasons for coach Ged Maloney and the Kirk Deighton Rangers club team . . . team were League and Cup winners . . . has a brother, Duncan . . . majored in kinesiology at UM . . . son of Ged and Lesley Maloney.
