Using the Spectrum Catalog

All resources housed in the Curriculum Center are cataloged in our automated search.  This includes traditional print resources as well as non-print items such as software, videos, and picture files.

The catalog can be searched by key word, title, author and subject.  Clicking on “Expanded Search” from the toolbar will help narrow your search to specific requests.  For example, if an easy children's book about animals is desired; enter “animals” as a keyword and limit the material type to “5-Easy.”

Once a search has been conducted, the resources can be listed alphabetically by call number, title, author, type, and location by clicking on the appropriate icon.

Double clicking on a resource title will result in more specific details being displayed.  For example, an itemized list of details including the publisher and date, the MARC record, a card catalog image, and the number of available copies may be viewed on the detail screen.

Clicking “Go Back” will result in returning to the materials found screen.

To search for a different subject, click “Go Back” a second time.

Search Tips

Let’s pretend you are writing a lesson plan on Sequoyah, the famous Cherokee Indian. If your search for "Sequoyah" does not find many resources, try to following:

  1. Use general terms.  For example, instead of searching for “Sequoyah,” search for “Cherokee Indians,” and/or “Native Americans.”
  2. Think of synonyms.  For example, search for “Native Americans” and “Indians.”
  3. Be creative.  A search for “Famous Indians” may turn up the perfect resource.
