Guide for New Faculty

Library Instruction

Carmichael Library is committed to the goal of increasing the information literacy of the students attending the University.  Information Literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning, and it extends across the curriculum to touch every discipline.

Library faculty efforts are directed toward teaching the Montevallo community how to approach the wide array of resources available to them; teaching both information concepts and use of specific resources.  The Library's EBSCO Electronic classroom has 25 computers and provides a hands-on environment.  Typically instruction occurs in the EBSCO classroom but the librarian can come to your classroom or via distance education upon request.

Contact Andrew Battista or Kathy Lowe for more information about scheduling a class, or use our online request form.

  • Librarians will meet with you one-on-one for reference and research consultations

Faculty ordering process for library material
Each department Chair designates a faculty member to act as a liaison with the library to coordinate departmental allocations.  Contact your department Chair for specific information.

Faculty are encouraged to request library materials needed to support the university curriculum. The librarians work with faculty to identify appropriate material, inform faculty and departments of their allocations, and review along with the Director and the Library Serials Committee decisions regarding periodicals.
