Communication Science and Disorders Research Guide

Finding Library Materials     
Library Catalog
The Library Catalog is often the best place to begin research. Search by author, title, subject, keyword, or a variety of other specialized searches.

Several subject headings that can be used in searching the catalog for materials relating to communication sciences and disorders are:

  • Communicative disorders

  • Hearing disorders

  • Language disorders

  • Speech disorders

  • Deafness

  • Deaf -- education

You can also search the catalog by the name of the disorder, such as dyslexia or aphasia.

Call Numbers
Carmichael Library uses the Library of Congress system to organize its materials.  Materials relating to communication science and disorders can be found in these call number ranges:

Databases

Electronic access to journal articles is available from the Databases  page.  Most databases can be searched using author, title or subject in either basic or advanced search formats. The results of a search will include either a citation, a citation and abstract, or a citation, abstract and full text of the article depending on the database searched.

  • Communications and Mass Media Complete (CMMC)

    Covers the broad spectrum of communication and includes a number of full text resources. 

  • ERIC
    Includes professional journals and education-related reports, conference proceedings, and other non-journal literature (ERIC documents) particularly valuable for communication issues in a K-12 setting.  

  • CINAHL 

    Indexes journals relating to nursing and allied health fields

  • PsycINFO

    Indexes and abstracts articles from scholarly journals, books, and book chapters in psychology and related fields.

  • Health and Wellness Resource Center

    Information about health, medicine, wellness from encyclopedias, directories, dictionaries, and periodicals

  • Health Source:  Nursing/Academic Edition

    Provides access to the nursing and allied health literature and includes over 500 full-text journals

  • MEDLINE 

    Clinical index to the medical literature dating back to 1962.  

  • Mental Measurements Yearbook

    Contains full text information about all English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas.
