Objective:
The library research component of PSYC 425 teaches the skills necessary to locate and access appropriate professional literature, including research articles and data to describe a specific psychological brain disorder, disease or function.
Students enrolled in PSYC425 are expected to successfully complete a Literature Review and a research paper from the professional literature via scholarly (academic) databases listed below. Given the level of this class, students are required to utilize these resources. .

Begin your search with

and PsycArticles.
This is a
senior level course and students should know how
to use these two databases.
PsycINFO
Use the Excellent thesaurus. To search PsycINFO
effectively, you should begin your search with
the thesaurus. 97 percent of the covered
material is peer-reviewed. The database also
includes information about the psychological
aspects of related fields such as medicine,
psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education,
pharmacology, physiology, linguistics,
anthropology, business, law and others. Journal
coverage, which spans 1887 to present. includes
citations of chapters in books and citations to
dissertations.
PsycArticles
American Psychological Association
(APA), is a definitive source of full-text,
peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles
in psychology. The database contains more than
45,000 articles from 57 journals - 46 published
by the American Psychological Association (APA)
and 11 from allied organizations. It includes
all journal articles, letters to the editor and
errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1985 to
present.
PubMed
The
PubMed database comprises more than 19 million
citations for biomedical articles from MEDLINE
and life science journals. Citations may include
links to full-text articles from PubMed Central
or publisher web sites.
