Searching Tips

 

Things to think about during the search process:

>  Think about:

    The information you are looking for as a "concept(s)"

     Each concept as a keyword or subject

     Relevant words, phrases, acronyms, and/or synonyms

     Proper words, or subject, used in the biological literature

     Look for subject headings in a thesaurus or index if appropriate

>  Write it down:

     A brief, simple statement

     Translate it into a search statement

>  Test your search:

     Look for subject headings in a citation

     Revise your search strategy based on retrieved results

     Search again

>  Other:

     Use the HELP feature in the databases

     Try different ideas, search terms, databases, etc.
