Archives and Special Collections

 

Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday          8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Policies
Only members of the library staff are permitted in the archives room; anyone else needing access to archival materials must make arrangements with the Reference Department.

Patrons must leave university id's or current, valid driver's licenses and sign in at  Circulation Service.

 

 

Faculty (full-time, adjunct, & faculty emeriti)

  • Books from the circulating collection – due at the end of the semester, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials -- by permission of a librarian

  • Archival materials -- by permission of the Director

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • No fines are charges to faculty, but charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed

Staff (full and part-time)

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – by permission of a librarian

  • Archival materials – by permission of the Director

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Students

  • Undergraduate and graduate students have the same borrowing privileges; they are give different borrower types in Horizon for statistical purposes

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

BACHE Borrowers

  • Faculty, staff, and students from BACHE member institutions must present a valid ID from that institution to gain borrowing privileges.

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Montevallo Residents

  • Montevallo residents must present proof of residence in the 35115 zip code and must be 18 years old or older

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Shelby County Teachers

  • Shelby County teachers must present proof of employment in a public school

  • Teachers are discouraged from borrowing materials for their students to use except in a supervised classroom setting

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Archival materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Spouses and Dependent Children of Faculty and Staff

  • Proof of relationship may be required unless accompanied by the faculty or staff member

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Archival materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Alumni

  • Alumni status will be verified in the Alumni directory or with the Alumni office

  • Circulation privileges

  • Books from the circulating collection – 4 weeks, 2 renewals

  • Reference materials – non-circulating

  • Archival materials – non-circulating

  • Audio books and scores -- 4 weeks, 2 renewal

  • DVDs, videotapes, and CDs -- 1 week, 1 renewal

  • Reserve materials – as directed by instructor

  • All other materials – 4 weeks, 0 renewals

  • Fines are charged for overdue materials, and charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed.

Other Borrowers

  • Students enrolled in the Upward Bound program, participants in Boys State, participants in Continuing Education programs, and other guests may use the library while on campus

  •  Borrowing privileges for these groups will be worked out on a case-by-case basis
