The College Student Experiences Questionnaire (CSEQ) is a versatile tool that assesses the quality of effort students expend in using institutional resources and opportunities provided for their learning and development.
Quality of effort is a key dimension for understanding student satisfaction, persistence, and the effects of attending college. The more students engage in educational activities, the more they benefit in their learning and development.

Institutions and their constituents want more information about three issues: assessment, accountability and accreditation. Assessment emphasizes outcomes, or what students have learned; accountability emphasizes efficiency, or how resources are used; and accreditation emphasizes institutional quality and improvement.

In addition to providing valuable information for the institution, students completing the CSEQ benefit from reflection and self-evaluation. Many students say completing the questionnaire prompts them to recall the range of activities in which they participated during the year and the progress they made toward important goals.
