Resident Assistants
Each floor in the residence hall is staffed by a Resident Assistant (RA). The Resident Assistant is specially selected and trained to assist you in many ways. Your RA shares the experience of living on the floor with you and the other residents, and is available to you as a source of information. He/She is there to assist you as you make the transition to residence hall life. RA's are undergraduate students who can relate to many of the experiences you will have in the coming year. Get to know your RA, not only as a staff member, but as a friend!

If you would like to become a Resident Assistant, come to the HRL Office and pick up an application, which includes three reference sheets. Complete the application and return it to the HRL Office. One Sunday in the fall, all of the applicants participate in a process called "Carousel." During this afternoon, you will have a chance to learn a little about what it takes to be an RA, and staff members are given a chance to evaluate you. Some applicants will be invited to a series of interviews. Individuals selected as RA candidates will take a class on "Interpersonal Helping Skills" (CG 370) in the spring. Normally, RAs are selected from those students who successfully complete the process though emergency hires may be made.

Residence Hall Director
There is one graduate Residence Hall Director (RHD) in each hall who is responsible for the general supervision of the residence hall. The RHD also works very closely with his/her Resident Assistants to create a residential community which ensures a safe and rewarding environment.
