In a time when the University of Montevallo continues to receive declining levels of financial support from the State (approximately 30% reduction since 2008), your generous support makes it possible for us to provide needed campus improvements, academic scholarships, as well as enhancing the everyday UM experience for our students. Today, more than $8 out of every $10 received in gifts or pledges is "restricted", or earmarked, for specific projects or initiatives per the donor's request. These gifts are much appreciated and very important to the causes they fund. However, there are many other important projects and needs that go undone due to lack of available funding.
Donations made to the area of greatest need at the University of Montevallo are called "unrestricted" gifts. Recently, unrestricted dollars were used to help fund the renovation of Farmer Hall with the construction of the James R. Wilkinson Student Union Center. Significant unrestricted dollars were also used to prevent an out-of-state company from destroying our Ebenezer Wetlands with a proposed quarry. In addition to major projects like these, each of the four UM colleges and our athletic programs received distributions from unrestricted funds to complete priority projects, which otherwise would not have been possible.
The UM 20/12 Club provides an easy and affordable way for members of the Montevallo family to donate exactly $20 a month for 12 months to fund these special unrestricted funding opportunities across the UM campus. If you've not yet seen our informational video on this new initiative, please take a few moments to check it out HERE. We hope you'll consider joining in on this exciting and important campaign.
