French Study Abroad Program

Montevallo in Avignon

May 5th - June 2nd

Avignon is located in the Provence region of France, in the department of the Vaucluse.  It is an old city with a rich history.  During the 14th century, the French king decided to establish a papacy in the city (separate from the pope in Rome), and this is why Avignon is known for its Palais des Papes.  Avignon sits on the Rhône River, an hour drive from the Mediterranean Sea. In Avignon, the skies are often blue and the sun shines regularly.  During the winter, it does however suffer from its strong and violent wind, le Mistral.
