B.F.A. musical theatre majors at UM are trained in Stanislavski-based techniques and acting for the camera, but pursue a sequence to integrate their acting, singing and movement skills in auditioning and performing musical theatre repertory.
You will work extensively on song interpretation as well as private voice lessons and dance classes in various styles, including jazz and tap. Students have an opportunity to perform in class showcases and vocal juries as well as audition for full musical productions.
Our students enjoy an active guest artist program and have benefited from participation in exciting off-campus collaborations such as our co-production of PARADE at the Virginia Samford Theatre (Fall 2009) /thea/PARADE_Review, or musical theatre intensive workshops in NYC (January 2010 and 2011).
