The Kodály method of music instruction begins with the singing voice-an instrument carried by every child. Using musical material found within the child’s culture, teachers who are trained in this approach focus on the development of musical skill through singing, solfege and rhythm syllables.
The UM Music Department invites your musical children, relatives and friends to participate in the 11th annual University of Montevallo Young Musicians’ Camp.
The Camp provides band, choir, guitar, and piano students, ages 11–18, with superior musical instruction combined with the fun and friendship of a great summer camp. A variety of ensemble and master-class experiences are conducted by UM music faculty and guest artists. Evening activities include swimming, field sports, cook-outs, movies and talent shows. Individual private instruction is also available in guitar, voice, piano and instruments.
All-State Band/Choir participants or piano students who placed in an AMTA sanctioned event qualify for a YMC All-State/AMTA Scholarship. For those who did not participate in All-State or AMTA, talent and need-based YMC General Scholarships are also available.
