Outside Scholarships
Outside Scholarships are scholarships where the University of Montevallo does not provide funding and is not involved in the application or recipient selection process. Students are encouraged to pursue as many Outside Scholarship opportunities as possible. Although UM does not limit Outside Scholarships by number or amount, scholarships received may affect the amount of federal financial aid for which students are eligible to receive. Students receiving funds from outside sources must report the source and amount to the Office of Student Financial Services.
The University of Montevallo does not recommend that you pay for any information on scholarships, as most scholarship information is provided free of charge.

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program: Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their scholarship program. Applicants must submit an essay on the topic that appears on the website: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm .
AES Engineering Solutions Scholarship: AES Engineering will be awarding scholarships based on essays submitted by students. The scholarships are open to students from all fields of study. http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm
Alabama CollegeCounts Scholarship- on behalf of the CollegeCounts Board of Directors, Alabama State Treasurer Young Boozer is introducing the CollegeCounts Scholarship Awards of $4,000 for four-year colleges and $2,000 for two-year colleges. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible: a high school senior or first-time college freshman beginning in fall 2013, a U.S. citizen and Alabama resident, enrolled or planning to enroll in an Alabama eligible educational institution, a minimum GPA of 2.75, an ACT score of 26 or below (applicants attending a two-year school will not be required to submit ACT scores), and demonstrate financial need. Alabama National Guard: The Alabama National Guard offers benefits like: 100% Tuition Assistance, nearly $20,000 over four years; the Montgomery G.I. Bill; Army National Guard Kicker; National Guard Scholarships that can pay up to $10,000 a year plus a $1,200 book allowance; and student loan repayment programs. Alfred B. Davis Sr., Memorial Scholarship - scholarships were established by Patricia D. Garrett in memory of her father who was an active member of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association for more than seventy years. The scholarships will be awarded to three African American full time native-born Mobile County students. Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university in the U.S. and class status of sophomore or junior as of fall semester 2012. Awards may be used for cost of books, fees, and/or tuition only. CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship: CEO.com is offering the CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship to MBA or undergraduate Business Majors. You must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 hours for undergraduates and 9 hours for graduates) at a 2-4 year accredited college or university. Minimum GPA requirement to apply is 3.20. CleanEdison - is looking for a bright young scholar to write a 750 word essay on the growth of the clean energy and energy efficiency sectors, the effects this will have on job creation and the need for skills training to meet this demand. The essays will be evaluated on the quality of writing and depth of research on the topic. The winning essay will be showcased on CleanEdison's website for one year and the student will receive a $500 scholarship. You must be a full-time students age 17-23 to apply. Creative Bioscience Fitness Scholarship: Creative Bioscience is offering a $1,000 scholarship to promote college students to learn about healthy eating habits. Gail Hurst Scholarship: Parents and Children Together (PACT) is accepting applications for the Gail Hurst Scholarship established in honor of PACT’s founder.Eligible recipient must be: A Morgan County, AL resident (permanent residency, not school residency); junior or higher at an accredited college or university (may include graduate students) enrolled in a human service major (social work, education, Counseling, political science, etc.) Eligible recipient must provide: A copy of student’s transcript to prove good standing with the school, and a 200 word essay describing how student would incorporate or apply information regarding child abuse prevention in their professional pursuits. Leon Bradley Scholarship: The Leon Bradley Scholarship Program is established to encourage more minorities or persons of color to enter the teaching profession. AASPA believes that it is of benefit for all students to experience diversity among the teachers who serve as role models for our students. Thus, the American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA) will annually award two scholarships to assist a minority college student seeking their initial teaching certification and/or endorsement. One scholarship will be for $2000 granted for the student's final year, which includes student teaching. The second scholarship will be for $1000 granted for a minority paraprofessional career-changer in his/her final year of teacher preparation. Linly Heflin Unit Scholarship: Scholarships are restricted to Alabama women who are U.S. citizens. Scholarship recipients must attend a four year Alabama college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A minimum ACT score of 23 is required. Mensa Education Foundation: The Mensa Education & Research Foundation college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program or financial need. The scholarship process begins Sept. 15 and ends with the scholarship application deadline of Jan. 15. MilitaryVALoan.com - is pleased to offer scholarships in support of disability awareness. Every year, a prospective or current college student will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help with the costs associated with attending school. Applicants should submit an essay between 500 and 1000 words about how they or someone they knew overcame disability to do something great. Pediatric Dentist of Tomorrow Scholarship: $500 scholarship available to students with a minimum 3.2 GPA and who currently attend a college, university, dental school, or specialization school, or will be attending within 1 year and hopes to enter the dental field in the future. Southeast Alabama Community Foundation Scholarships - Through its scholarship funds, the assists area students attain their academic goals by offsetting their postsecondary educational expenses. Though the forms are available year-round, the annual application deadline is April 1 for funds awarded each September. Must be from Dale, Geneva, Coffee, Henry, or Houston counties to apply. Streamline Refinance - is pleased to offer scholarships for students who are currently enrolled in finance, economics, or investment related fields and who are pursuing advanced education in these particular areas. Qualified applicants are welcome to submit an essay of 500-1000 words which describes what they hope to accomplish during their career in the finance, economics, or investment fields. Applications will be read and judged by the editors of Streamline Refinance and a winner will be selected on January 15, 2013. SunTrust Scholarship: High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every two weeks. The Dan Coiro Scholarship -open to all students pursuing a degree in science or engineering. The Julia Corine Barnes scholarship- open to all students pursuing a degree in language, linguistics or literature. Students can submit their application including a one-paged personal statement detailing what they are majoring in and what they hope to accomplish with their major. Deadline: January 31s. Vacation Roost Scholarships – Interactive Marketing Scholarships: Interactive Marketing Scholarship is designed to encourage and promote creative marketing in relation to online business. A $2,500 scholarship award is made twice a year, once in August and January. The August award deadline is June 1st and the January award deadline is November 1st. Varsity Tutors Monthly Scholarship: Varsity Tutors offers a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest to students who write the best essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage will be able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes will be reviewed by Varsity Tutors and one winner will be chosen who will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. WyzAnt College Scholarship: $6,000 in scholarships are currently available for three deserving students. Please submit your application to http://www.wyzant.com/Scholarships/ by May 1, 2011. Each applicant will be required to write an essay in English of no more than 300 words answering the question: "Who has been most important tutor, teacher or coach in my life and why?" The essay must be the sole original work of the applicant and there may be only one entry per applicant.

Occasionally, Outside Scholarship donors require proof of enrollment or proof of academic standing prior to sending funds. If so, the student should contact the Registrar's Office located in Palmer Hall at 205-665-6040.
