Outside Scholarships

 

Outside Scholarships are scholarships where the University of Montevallo does not provide funding and is not involved in the application or recipient selection process. Students are encouraged to pursue as many Outside Scholarship opportunities as possible. Although UM does not limit Outside Scholarships by number or amount, scholarships received may affect the amount of federal financial aid for which students are eligible to receive. Students receiving funds from outside sources must report the source and amount to the Office of Student Financial Services.

The University of Montevallo does not recommend that you pay for any information on scholarships, as most scholarship information is provided free of charge.

Below is a list of some outside scholarship opportunities that may be of interest to University of Montevallo students. Please note that application deadlines may vary; it is important to review each website for deadlines.  The University of Montevallo does not endorse any of these entities.  This is simply a source of information.  Students must be certain to read and understand any application that requires a signature. 

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program: Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their scholarship program.  Applicants must submit an essay on the topic that appears on the website: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm .

AES Engineering Solutions Scholarship:  AES Engineering will be awarding scholarships based on essays submitted by students. The scholarships are open to students from all fields of study. http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm

American Institute of CPA’s: The AICPA offers a number of academic scholarships for students pursuing a major in accounting. Alabama Public Television (APT) Scholarship: Alabama Public Television (APT) is pleased to announce it will award two scholarships to enrolled students attending four-year Alabama colleges or universities and pursuing a major in broadcasting. One of the two will be named for the Birmingham station WBIQ-TV and other for the Montgomery facility, WAIQ-TV. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. Alabama National Guard: The Alabama National Guard offers benefits like: 100% Tuition Assistance, nearly $20,000 over four years; the Montgomery G.I. Bill; Army National Guard Kicker; National Guard Scholarships that can pay up to $10,000 a year plus a $1,200 book allowance; and student loan repayment programs. Army ROTC: Army ROTC scholarship are available to college-bound high school student or students already attending a college or university. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need. For more information visit http://www.goarmy.com/rotc/scholarships.jsp.

Campus Discovery: Campus Discovery offers a scholarship for college students who complete an online survey about their college experience. To participate in the survey go to http://www.campusdiscovery.com/ .

CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship: CEO.com is offering the CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship to MBA or undergraduate Business Majors. You must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 hours for undergraduates and 9 hours for graduates) at a 2-4 year accredited college or university. Minimum GPA requirement to apply is 3.20. Gail Hurst Scholarship: Parents and Children Together (PACT) is accepting applications for the Gail Hurst Scholarship established in honor of PACT’s founder.Eligible recipient must be: A Morgan County, AL resident (permanent residency, not school residency); junior or higher at an accredited college or university (may include graduate students) enrolled in a human service major (social work, education, Counseling, political science, etc.)  Eligible recipient must provide: A copy of student’s transcript to prove good standing with the school, and a 200 word essay describing how student would incorporate or apply information regarding child abuse prevention in their professional pursuits. J. Craig and Page T. Smith Scholarship: Open to Alabama high school seniors with documented community activities or assistance to family members. Special consideration is given to first generations college students.  Visit this website for more information: http://www.smithscholarships.com/

J. L. Bedsole Scholarship Foundation: Applicant must be graduating from a high school in Mobile County, Baldwin County Clarke County, Monroe County, Washington County, or Sweet Water High School in Marengo County.  Visit this website for more information: http://www.jlbedsolefoundation.org/default.asp?ID=2

John Gyles Education Awards: The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United Stated. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990. Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students in all areas of post secondary study. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process. Selected students will receive up to $3,000.00. Leon Bradley Scholarship: The Leon Bradley Scholarship Program is established to encourage more minorities or persons of color to enter the teaching profession. AASPA believes that it is of benefit for all students to experience diversity among the teachers who serve as role models for our students. Thus, the American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA) will annually award two scholarships to assist a minority college student seeking their initial teaching certification and/or endorsement. One scholarship will be for $2000 granted for the student's final year, which includes student teaching. The second scholarship will be for $1000 granted for a minority paraprofessional career-changer in his/her final year of teacher preparation. Linly Heflin Unit Scholarship: Scholarships are restricted to Alabama women who are U.S. citizens. Scholarship recipients must attend a four year Alabama college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A minimum ACT score of 23 is required. Mensa Education Foundation: The Mensa Education & Research Foundation college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program or financial need. The scholarship process begins Sept. 15 and ends with the scholarship application deadline of Jan. 15. NAAMLP – National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs Scholarship - The $1,500 NAAMLP Scholarship is intended to assist in the education of students who intend to work as scientists or technicians in the field of mine land reclamation. NAAMLP is a non-profit, professional organization that promotes the reclamation and restoration of lands affected by abandoned mining throughout the nation. Letters of application for this scholarship must be received by May 30, 2012. Spend on Life Scholarship Program: The Spend on Life Scholarship Program offers financial assistance for college students who are unable to obtain loans due to the current credit crunch or their personal credit history. Awards range from $500 to $5,000 a year of fill-time study and are based on financial need and participation in that application process. For more information visit http://students.spendonlife.com/

SunTrust Scholarship: High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every two weeks. The Brock Blake Student Entrepreneur of the Year Scholarship: the CEO of Lendio is offering this $2,500 scholarship to MBA or undergraduate Business Majors. You must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 hours for undergraduates and 9 hours for graduates) at a 2-4 year accredited college or university. Minimum GPA requirement to apply is 3.20. The Fruit Company Gift Basket Entrepreneur Award - Open to graduate of ANY U.S. high school. Incoming freshmen at any US college/university. Business or Agriculture majors. No GPA requirement. Award amount - $4000. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2012. The Roy Webster Scholarship:  For graduates of Oregon or Washington high schools (graduation year doesn’t matter). Incoming freshmen at any US college/university. No major or GPA requirement. Award amount - $1000. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2012. WyzAnt College Scholarship: $6,000 in scholarships are currently available for three deserving students. Please submit your application to http://www.wyzant.com/Scholarships/ by May 1, 2011. Each applicant will be required to write an essay in English of no more than 300 words answering the question: "Who has been most important tutor, teacher or coach in my life and why?" The essay must be the sole original work of the applicant and there may be only one entry per applicant.

Occasionally, Outside Scholarship donors require proof of enrollment or proof of academic standing prior to sending funds. If so, the student should contact the Records Office located in Palmer Hall at 205-665-6040.
