Sabbaticals

It was a delightful re-animation of exhausted spirits. The worn-out past was sunk in the freshness of what was coming.
-- Austen, Emma

Sabbatical leaves provide faculty with opportunities for professional development, scholarly pursuits, and professional and intellectual renewal. Projects pursued during a sabbatical are expected to result in improved teaching and professional performance, enhanced research and/or artistic activities, and a renewed capacity for service to UM and the community.

Eligibility: Applicants must be tenured and must be in the 7th year (or more) of continuous full-time service since their appointment at UM or since the end of their last sabbatical year. If you have questions about your eligibility, direct them to Kathy King. For additional information about sabbatical policy, see Faculty Handbook.

Recipients of sabbatical leaves who seek assistance with research expenses are encouraged to apply for R&CP grants or to pursue external funding.

All proposals are reviewed by the Faculty Development Advisory Committee (FDAC) and endorsed by the VPAA.
