Faculty Senate
April 21, 2006
Call to Order: The
meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm.
Members Present:
Stacey Ayotte, Sally Bennett Bell, Houston Byrd,
Jason Cooper, Charlotte Daughhetee, Sherry Ford,
Kristen Gilbert, Kathy Lowe, Michael Patton,
Stephanie Puleo, Cindy Tidwell, Elizabeth
Thrower, Eric Vaccarella, Samantha Webb, Jill
Wicknick
President’s Report:
Michael Patton reported on the following items:
- An
email was sent out to recruit faculty
members for committee assignments

There is interest in developing majors
residence halls. Next year’s senate should
follow up with Residence Life on this issue.
- The
pre-tenure sabbatical proposal would be
strengthened if the senate can cite other
institutions where this policy has already
been implemented.
- A
resolution for President McChesney will be
prepared and presented during the next
Trustee’s meeting.

Michael Patton thanked senators for all of
their hard work this year.
Old Business:
-
Jason Cooper has finalized the survey and it
will go out next week.
New Business:
-
Library faculty members have the same
responsibilities as other faculty but do not
get off during spring break. The senate
will look into this issue next year.
- The
faculty senate will plan a reception for the
new president.

Jill Wicknick reported that a recycling
dumpster sponsored by the Environmental Club
will be placed behind the physical plant.

Jill Wicknick agreed to continue serving as
the Ombudsperson for the 2006-2007 academic
year.
- The
senate presented Michael Patton with a gift
in appreciation for his leadership and
service as Faculty Senate President.
Election of Officers:
-
President: Elizabeth Thrower nominated
Stephanie Puleo for President and Sherry
Ford nominated Houston Byrd for President.
Stephanie Puleo was elected as President.

Secretary: Sherry Ford agreed to serve as
Secretary and was elected through
acclamation of the senate.

Alternate Secretary: Houston Byrd agreed to
serve as Alternate Secretary and was elected
through acclamation of the senate.
Elizabeth Thrower moved
that the senate suspend the meeting and
reconvene at Eclipse for the Faculty Senate end
of the year party. Sherry Ford seconded and the
motion passed unanimously.
