Call to order: the meeting was called to order at 2:01 pm
Members Present: Alexander, Callaghan, Cooper, Daughhetee, Manning, Martin, Miller, Patton, Puleo, Thrower, Tidwell, Wacker, Webb, Wicknick, Gifford (SGA).
Approval of Previous Minutes: Alexander moved that the December 10, 2004 minutes be approved, Puleo seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
President’s Report: Michael Patton gave a brief report on planned meetings with various members of Administration.
Committee Reports:
SAC Issues-The SAC will be open the 3rd Saturday of each month for Family Swim.
Faculty Survey-Senators were encouraged to provide feedback on items so we can implement the survey in a timely manner.
Liaison Reports:
SGA-Don Alexander reported that the SGA would like increased faculty attendance at College Night.
Old Business:
Faculty Assembly-Will meet in Wills Hall room 200 on February 2nd at 3:30.
Faculty Lounge Reception-Michael Patton asked for input on a possible date a faculty lounge opening reception. Homecoming week was suggested and a specific date will be determined at the next Faculty Senate meeting.
CASE Nomination-Candidate names have been submitted but no supporting documents have been received. Michael Patton will make another request for supporting documentation.
EEOC Committee-a faculty member has requested that the senate look at the possible expansion of this committee’s duties.
Personnel/Faculty Issues/Programmatic Autonomy-The Senate continued to discuss these issues and will make a report after further investigation. This investigation will include: additional information obtained from administration, a review of AAUP best practices, a review of practices at other institutions, and faculty input.
New Business:
Proposed Constitution and By-Laws Revision-Senators were asked to poll faculty in their colleges concerning changes to the Faculty Senate By-Laws. The senate would like to enhance continuity by adding a President-Elect position and extending the President’s term to two years.
Announcements:
The next Faculty Senate Meeting is on January 28th, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Merrill Room. Faculty Senate meetings are open to all faculty members.
Senators were asked to remind faculty to attend College Night.
The Spring Faculty Assembly is on February 2nd 2005 at 3:30 pm.
The Trustee reception is from 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the Reynolds Foyers on February 11, 2005.
