Weapons

The possession and/or use of firearms, ammunition, Bowie knives, instruments of like kind, bows and arrows, and other potentially dangerous weapons, including firecrackers or other explosive devices in all University buildings, facilities and properties is prohibited. Firearms and other weapons possessed legally which are brought onto University property must be registered with the University police and held in custody to be released to the owner upon the owner's departure from campus.

This policy applies to all faculty, staff, students, vendors, and visitors, except duly authorized law enforcement officials in the lawful discharge of their duties.

Temporary exceptions may be granted by written permit issued by the Chief of the University of Montevallo Police Department or authorized designee for job related, educational or demonstration purposes.

This policy shall not apply to legal possession of weapons by residents of Flowerhill, or rental property used as a private residence. Neither shall it apply to the storage of firearms and ammunition used by the University Police Department for training purposes or in the lawful discharge of duties, nor shall it apply to storage and safekeeping of any firearm or other type weapon by University Police for any visitor, student, faculty or staff member.

Federal, state and local laws and ordinances will be enforced by the University Police Department and its mutual aid agencies.
